Hi Peter,
Dakhla was good!
Little wind was predicted, but in the end the kids were able to kite for 4 days.
The location of WDC is super, there is no one around you from other resorts, which is better than in Lagon Energy (where we were the last 2 years at Easter...)
The rooms are nice, and a bit more spacious than in Lagon Energy, the resort is also nice and a lot of greenery has been planted (which still has to grow, not as green as Lagon Energy yet, but it will be nice!!!)
Some work points for WDC
-The rooms should still have shelves or closets, we had to put all our clothes on the floor...
-We lost a lot of time at check-in, had to wait a long time in the lobby before we could go to the rooms, had to fill out lists, etc... It was the only day with a lot of wind, and everyone wanted to be on the water, which was frustrating, we knew that the rest of the week there would be almost no wind, we lost at least 2 hours there... Then again the same thing at the surf club, again a lot of waiting, registration, etc... That was a pity...
-It was clear that they could not do much business that week because of the wind, and they pushed quite a bit to participate in the activities:
-Golf surfing at the ocean: was nice, a spot not far from Point d'Or, if you looked at the sea super beautiful, behind you a garbage dump, not normal... Maybe they better choose another spot for that... But the activity itself was good.
-Wakeboarding (with no wind) was a real flop, for which they charge a lot of money. Their boats can barely pull an adult out of the water, the children were just fine, but even then it went at a méga slow pace, causing them to sink into the water again and again... It is better to spend 2 hours in Lake Side hanging on to the cable, for the same price as 15 minutes in WDC... If they want to do this activity, they should really look for a better boat (motor) (In Lagon Energy also basic, but much better)
-They clearly said ‘We are the board here and we decide who has to pay for resque, etc...’. The kids both kite very well, and even then they treated the kids as beginners, etc... All things that did not happen at Lagon Energy the last 2 years, there everything went correctly in that respect.
-The first 3 days we had no buffet, food was served at the table, so there was only a choice of 2 starters and 2 main courses. Absolutely substandard. Very small portions, with which we had not eaten... They said it was because the hotel was not full, but of course that is not our choice. And that surprised us too, because when we booked in September you guys at High Tech told us to hurry because it was almost full... Bizarre... Last days they may have put buffet, but Lagon Energy's buffets are remarkably better! They need to work on that, we think they can improve a lot with small extras...
-They could also learn from Lagon Energy in terms of cosiness, in the evening they shouldn't turn on the unpleasant white LED lighting, it gives the feeling of being in a school refectory, while you're in such a beautiful environment... Small adjustment = big effect!
It's only small points, maybe still some beginners' mistakes, as they haven't been active for long... If they would adjust this, they would definitely be worthy of Lagon Energy, but at the moment we would doubt whether we would go back to WDC or to Lagon Energy. WDC does have a huge advantage in terms of spot (few people)!
