Zanzibar Located in the East coast of Africa, facing Tanzania’s capital city (Dar-es-Salam), Northwest of Madagascar and Southeast of the Seychelles islands, Zanzibar offers many advantages for Kitesurfing. The island enjoys a tropical climate, so Kitesurfing can be practiced during the major part of the year, thanks to the mild weather and the temperature of the sea’s crystalline waters. The long and white sand beaches, with few people during most of the day, allow a quicker learning process, besides a very pleasant and peaceful navigation. Most of the island‘s East coast is surrounded by a coral reef. You can navigate (si es navegar con table se le llama launch or surf) beside the reef, accompanied by dolphins and a variety of species while observing the sea bed and the turquoise color waters. If you prefer to navigate in the area between the coast and the coral reef, the navigation is easier and so is the learning process. The winds Thanks to the perfect weather and wind seasonality, the island is a perfect spot to learn and enjoy kitesurfing. That is why the island offers a great potential for a future development and growth of a sport that relies on the winds. Kusini and Kaskasi are the prevailing wind in the island: • 4 months of Kaskasi wind • 2 months with no wind • 4 months of Kusini wind • 2 months with no wind KUSINI 15th June through 15th October approx. South to North wind. This wind blows every day, permanently, following parallel to the beach line upwards. In the morning the wind has a speed of 15 to 18 knots whereas at dusk the speed rises to 18 to 25 knots. KASKASI 15th December through 15th April, approx. North to South wind. This wind also blows parallel to the beach, although the speed varies somehow. There are days with gusts of higher speed wind. Even though one can still learn Kite surfing, sea conditions are more adequate for experienced kiters.
